As part of the International Day of Play, celebrated on June 11, CDIAP Montsià, managed by Suara Cooperativa, is sharing its experience of incorporating the educational robot mTiny as a complementary resource in early intervention sessions with children aged 0 to 6.

This initiative has made it possible to explore new ways of supporting child development through play, technology and children’s active participation. The resource has mainly been used with children over the age of 3, both in individual sessions and in small groups, adapting the activities to each child’s needs and therapeutic goals.

The activities have focused on different developmental areas, including motor skills, communication and language, joint attention, memory, imitation and emotional recognition.

According to Anna Farrés Sariñena, pediatric physiotherapist at CDIAP Montsià and professional leading the initiative, the incorporation of the robot has received “a very positive response from the children, generating interest, motivation and active participation during the sessions”.

In some cases, children even requested the activity through pictograms, showing that the material is accessible, meaningful and highly motivating.

Technology and play at the service of early intervention

The mTiny robot has enabled the creation of therapeutic activities adapted to different goals. In the motor skills area, for example, simple circuits and arrow sequences were designed to work on grasping, coordination and arm and hand movement.

The robot’s controller, designed to be easy to handle, especially encouraged the participation of children with motor difficulties, promoting a more autonomous and participatory experience.

Regarding communication and language, professionals created circuits based on everyday and symbolic situations, such as a shop, a hospital or a police station. These activities help strengthen vocabulary, comprehension and interaction with adults and other children, always within a playful and motivating environment.

The robot has also been used to work on emotions through activities focused on emotional recognition and representation linked to different situations and images.

Innovation with a therapeutic perspective

This initiative is part of the Social Digital Lab by Suara, the space through which the cooperative promotes and supports digital innovation projects with social impact.

The overall assessment from the CDIAP Montsià team has been very positive. The experience highlights the potential of educational robotics as a support tool in early intervention, always integrated realistically into the service’s daily dynamics and adapted to each child’s therapeutic goals.

Through initiatives like this, Suara Cooperativa continues to promote innovation in early childhood support, incorporating technological resources that help create more accessible, participatory and meaningful learning environments.
