Last March, Suara Cooperativa approved a protocol to respond to the popularly known Trans Law, which it has now updated to comply with a modification of the regulations approved last October.
Suara Cooperativa updates its protocol to protect LGTBIQ+ people from any discrimination, aggression or harassment in the face of possible discrimination, aggression or harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
In March 2024, Suara already adopted a protocol to guarantee the rights of people in the group. In this way, it responded to Law 4/2023 of February 28 on the Reality of Effective Equality for Trans and LGTBI+ People, popularly known as the Trans Law. According to this legislation, companies had to adopt equality protocols to preserve the rights of people from this group, but Suara decided to go a step further and also include all the people served.
On December 23, 2024, Suara Cooperativa modified and updated the LGTBI+ protocol in accordance with Royal Decree 1026/2024, of October 8, which develops the planned set of measures for equality and non-discrimination of LGTBI+ people in companies. These are the modifications that have been introduced in the Suara protocol:
- the explicit declaration of zero tolerance towards any type of discriminatory practice considered as harassment on grounds of gender, with any conduct of this nature being expressly prohibited.
- the inclusion of definitions that are included in the LGTBI+ group.
- the expansion of the scope of application of the LGTBI+ protocol, including all those who apply for a job.
- the mention of the regulations approved subsequent to the approval of the first LGTBI+ protocol of the Cooperative.
- the inclusion of the guiding principles of privacy and dignity to guarantee a correct procedure in the event of having to initiate the protocol, as well as the restitution of victims and the differentiation between prohibition and protection against retaliation.
- the need to obtain the explicit consent of the victim so that third parties can file the corresponding complaint.
- the obligation on the part of the Equality Commission to issue a binding report on the previous phase of the procedure, as well as the final report within 30 days from the date of filing the complaint.
Although the regulations on the obligation to adopt an LGTBI+ protocol were published at the end of 2024, Suara Cooperativa has been working since long before to guarantee a safe space for all people who are part of the organization, regardless of their gender, sex, culture, age or religion. As has been explained, with the update of the protocol, we not only comply with the regulations in force as of today, but we continue to work with the aim of avoiding those actions that
