Suara Cooperativa has launched the Casal Online that connects people who are at home with recreational, cultural, stimulation and physical activity proposals, through television.
This remote Casal works in the same way as a face-to-face one and its purpose is for the person at home to be entertained, have fun, learn things, do physical activity or interact with other people to combat unwanted loneliness, which can occur in the phase of old age.
One of the participants is Maria Rojo, who explains that the activities start at eleven o'clock in the morning. During the first half hour they chat with the instructor and the other people to explain how they feel. Then they do an activity that lasts about three quarters of an hour and, finally, they close the Casal Online with half an hour of gymnastics.
"The Casal Online is so that the elderly are not alone," explains Rojo, who has been participating in this initiative since April 2022. An activity that she says has changed her life: "I feel more distracted. I'm waiting for eleven o'clock because it distracts me a lot".
Her daughter, Cristina Escrich, values very positively the impact that the remote house has had on her mother, since now she is accompanied a few hours a day, while before she was practically alone 24 hours a day. In this sense, she relates that her mother no longer only sees the family, but also socializes with other people who are in the same situation as her, to whom she explains her things, at the same time as she does gymnastics. "Before, she was more subdued every day, and now it's just a few moments," Escrich says.
Beyond the activities of the Casal Online, another of the objectives is that the people who participate can weave links to enjoy a social network with other people who are in a similar situation.
The Casal remoto is an initiative that has been developed within the framework of the 'Singular Projects' funded by the Directorate General of Social Economy and the Department of Enterprise and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
