The facility, promoted by Barcelona Activa, aims to become a benchmark hub for talent development, entrepreneurship and new solutions linked to the care economy.
Barcelona will soon have a new space dedicated to shaping the present and future of care. The Care Economy Hub, promoted by Barcelona City Council through Barcelona Activa, will bring together training, innovation and entrepreneurship to address the social and demographic challenges of the coming years.
As part of this initiative, Suara Cooperativa and Eurecat will lead activities related to innovation and ecosystem development, fostering collaboration among companies, organisations, professionals, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in the sector.
A space to create and test new solutions
Planned activities include co-creation initiatives, support programmes for emerging projects and spaces to test and validate new proposals aimed at improving care services and people's well-being.
Suara Cooperativa's participation brings the perspective of an organisation with more than forty years of experience in person-centred care and in transforming care services, while Eurecat contributes its expertise in applied research and technological development.
According to Bàrbara Outeiro, Head of Open Innovation at Suara Cooperativa, “this project allows us to move forward in transforming the care sector through social innovation, technology and shared knowledge. At Suara, we will contribute our expertise in care services to help develop solutions that improve the quality of life of both people receiving care and the professionals who support them.”
For Felip Miralles, Director of Health Technologies at Eurecat, “technological innovation is key to addressing the current and future challenges of the care economy. This new hub represents an opportunity to co-create, test and validate solutions with real impact, connecting technological knowledge with the needs of the sector and society.”
A strategic project for the city
The Care Economy Hub is part of the Barcelona Towards the Right to Care (2025–2030) policy framework, which seeks to advance towards a more comprehensive, innovative and sustainable model of care.
The facility will also involve the Institut Hospital del Mar FP Sanitària, which will lead the training and talent development area.
Through this initiative, Barcelona strengthens its commitment to a sector of growing social and economic importance, while Suara Cooperativa continues to promote models that place people and their well-being at the centre.
