In 2023, Suara Cooperativa closed with a total of 1,574 members, as recorded in its social report which bears the motto "People for social transformation". According to our cooperative values, the partners, workers and people served are the ones who lead the decision-making in their work and life projects
This year the cooperatives are celebrating, since it is 125 years since we decided to organize and collaborate together. Since then, the cooperative model has faced various adversities such as two wars, a dictatorship, different economic crises or the covid pandemic. However, it has survived and continues to weave answers to the capitalist model to build a fairer, more equitable and sustainable society.
At Suara Cooperativa we are no exception, as our 2023 corporate report demonstrates. This year we increased our corporate base by 11.8% and closed the year with a total of 1,574 members.
However, this does not prevent us from having a self-managed, horizontal, democratic and participatory governance model. In fact, we hold two General Assemblies a year, which are our highest decision-making body and which we count on a high level of participation.
Last year the Ordinary General Assembly, which we held in May 2023 at the Teatre de la Passió d'Olesa de Montserrat, had a participation of 65.5%. It was the first time we met again in person since the covid-19 pandemic began. On the other hand, 89.7% of the members participated in the Extraordinary General Assembly, which was held in virtual format in November.
People for social transformation
One of the key values of cooperatives is to put life, and not productivity, at the center of our activity. A bet that takes on even more relevance at Suara Cooperativa where we work in the field of social action and accompany people of all age groups: from childhood to old age. A work guided by our will to look after the common good and promote community action so that it is the people, both members, workers and clients, who make their own decisions both in the work and life spheres.
For this reason, the motto chosen for the 2023 commemoration is "People for social transformation". In this sense, Tomàs Llompart and Laura Peracaula, co-directors general of Suara Cooperativa, emphasize that the organization works to empower people and for local development, in a letter published at the beginning of the report
"We drive a social transformation where the workers, clients or customers are the true protagonists of our action through decision-making in their day-to-day life", the letter states.
Throughout 2023, we accompanied 49,282 people, 22% more than in 2022, in the transformation of their vital projects. These rated our services very positively with a score of 8.95 for satisfaction and a score of 8.98 for recommendation.
Non-profit and socially responsible
Beyond our cooperative model, at Suara we have also decided to be a non-profit organization, which is why we reinvest our profits in society and in social transformation projects. In this sense, in 2023 we will spend close to 2.15 million euros to strengthen the financing of the cooperative to enable its growth and invest in social projects.
In addition, we allocated 50,000 euros to finance social transformation projects linked to improving the cooperative's services, as well as transforming the local or international territory. In turn, these initiatives had to be aimed at responding to some of the following Sustainable Development Goals: clean and affordable energy, sustainable cities and communities; responsible consumption and production or climate action.
Looking ahead to 2024 and in accordance with our cooperative values, we will continue with our mission to transform both the social and environmental environment and we will continue to promote the relevant measures to give meaning to our slogan: "Suara Cooperativa, people who decide.
