August 31 is World Solidarity Day and, for this reason, this month of August we dedicate it to how cooperatives collaborate to strengthen our projects aimed at social transformation.
The next August 31 is International Solidarity Day. For this reason, this month of August we dedicate it to the cooperative value of solidarity, within the framework of the campaign that we launched in January to highlight a cooperative value each month within the framework that this 2025 UNESCO has declared the International Year of Cooperatives because we contribute to the construction of a better world.
We live in a world where individuality and competitiveness are promoted while at the same time profit is placed at the center of productivity. On the other hand, cooperatives promote a model based on solidarity and intercooperation, in which we put life in its broadest sense at the center of our action.
For this reason, we create an economic activity that promotes dignified and quality work, that ensures the well-being of people, the territory where we work and the sustainability of the planet.
We cannot do a challenge of this magnitude in isolation, but we are aware that we must do it by intercooperating among ourselves, with the people we serve and the community. Therefore, we promote solidarity in order to strengthen our cooperative projects.
In the case of Suara Cooperativa, we have a very clear mission: social transformation so that the people we serve in the different services we have for all life segments, especially those who are in a greater situation of vulnerability, can improve their realities through services rooted in the territory and that enhance community action.
Democratic action
The care of people cannot exclude their immediate environment or the territory where they live. Therefore, from Suara Cooperativa we promote citizen action, where we enhance interaction and solidarity between people in the same territory. In this way, we aim to weave a network between people who live in the same place and promote solidarity between them. This allows us not only to transform the reality of the people we serve, but also of those in their environment.
A recent example is that students from the Social Integration Training Course in La Bastida (Santa Coloma de Gramanet) have created different group dynamics that aim to improve the emotional and psychological well-being of young people in a situation of homelessness that we serve in the Sostre 360º service.
In the Torre Baró neighborhood (Barcelona) where we manage the Open Center together with Càritas Barcelona, the two entities organized an open participatory process to improve the outdoor facilities of this service for children and adolescents in situations of vulnerability.
In addition, at Suara Cooperativa we are a non-profit organization, which reinvests surpluses in projects of social transformation and the environment, such as both our services and the community in which we work.
Solidarity between organizations and people promotes social cohesion, helps to improve the reality of people and, therefore, strengthens territories.
