Last Friday, July 11, within the framework of the Social Action Congress, Suara Cooperativa and the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu presented the "Pis Post Acompanya'm" project, a pioneering initiative that responds to a need detected by professional teams: the lack of specific services for young adults with an associated mental health condition, who are in a situation of great vulnerability and without adequate support alternatives. From a multidisciplinary team, made up of professionals from social education, psychology, social work and psychiatry, a clear view is defended: "support does not end with adulthood", but rather it is necessary to guarantee flexible, specialized and respectful resources that allow a safe and dignified transition to adult life.

The project was conceptualized in 2023 and throughout 2025 it has begun direct attention to the first users of the apartment. At the same time, other young people are in a transition phase from the Unit Acompanya’m, with a six-month prior support to promote autonomy and prepare for the change of stage.

The central objective is to become a temporary residential resource, with the right until the age of 21, from where young people can build their life project, maintaining therapeutic and educational support adapted to their reality.

“These are young people who often do not have a family network or community support, and who suffer from serious mental disorders in combination with other situations of social risk” explains Cèlia Castillo, a professional from the social team of Suara Cooperativa.

The impact of the project will be measured according to the reduction in emotional distress, the number of hospital admissions and the increase in autonomy, with the aim that young people can achieve an autonomous life from the age of 21. “The therapeutic process is not linear, and therefore slower rhythms and flexibility are needed, accompanying them even during periods of hospital admission,” adds Castillo.

The Pis Post Acompanya'm is considered a key piece within the network of support services for young people, a space where they can live, be listened to and begin to build their future, with the constant support of trained and involved professionals. “Their casuistry is very complex, both in the health and social fields, and this makes a model that combines emotional care, structural support and community work essential,” shared Iria Fernández, spokesperson for the Hospital's Acompanya'm Unit team.
