Our deepest thanks for your commitment to Suara and for these 45 years of Barcelona’s Home Care Service

Today, 13 October 2026, Suara Cooperativa brings to a close a historic chapter spanning 45 years at the helm of Barcelona City Council’s Home Care Service (SAD).

More than 2,300 professionals are beginning a new chapter in their working lives outside our organisation.

But we do not want to leave without expressing our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the thousands upon thousands of people and families who have opened their homes to us over these more than four decades.

We end this journey proud to have received an outstanding service quality rating from service users in 2025, with a score of 9.1 out of 10. And we sincerely hope that the people receiving care will continue to enjoy the highest quality of care, as they deserve.

We are grateful for Barcelona City Council’s trust throughout these 45 years, and we continue to work together on other projects and services. We are also grateful for the countless expressions of support we have received in recent weeks from across the social sector, from other public authorities and from the wider network of community and civil society organisations in Catalonia.

We continue, and will continue, to lead the transformation, innovation and humanisation of Catalonia’s much-needed care sector. We do so with the highest standards, professionalism and the resolve of an organisation that knows where it comes from and where it is heading.

This moment makes an unsustainable reality clearer than ever: a profound change is needed in the way social services are procured. Care for people in vulnerable situations cannot be subject to tendering mechanisms based on price competition.

Addressing people’s vulnerability and care needs requires meaningful recognition of the Social Economy and a commitment to locally rooted, non-profit organisations that are dedicated to quality employment and their communities.

On behalf of the Governing Board, the Co-General Directors and all our colleagues at Suara: thank you for these 45 years!

Laia Bonastra, Laura Peracaula and Tomàs Llompart
Chair of the Governing Board and Co-General Directors of Suara Cooperativa
