In this International Year of Cooperatives, Suara wants to show you 12 values that create more just, equitable and egalitarian societies. In January, we highlight the value of proximity.
Cooperatives contribute to building a better world. This has been determined by the United Nations Organization, which has declared 2025 as the international year of cooperatives. But how do we make it possible? This is what from Suara Cooperativa we will explain to you throughout the year, where each month we will present a cooperative value that helps us create more just, equitable, supportive, cohesive and egalitarian societies.
Values that not only constitute us as a real and effective alternative to the existing model or offer resilient responses to the different economic, social or climate crises that have occurred throughout history; but also allow us to transform societies from within: from the scale of neighbors to the workplace.
If cooperativism builds a better world, it is because our values go far beyond an economic model, if not because they also seek to offer a benefit to society as a whole, since they prioritize sharing, collaborating, the common good, the person or the planet; instead of competing, individuality, personal benefit or profit. January: proximity
Cooperatives put people and the environment at the center of their activity, instead of productivity and profit, since our desire is to create societies where humans and nature are guaranteed. For this reason, cooperatives work from proximity to the person and the territory.
In the case of Suara Cooperativa, for example, we are a group of people who came together with a clear objective: social transformation. Our activity revolves around people of different ages, needs and realities, to whom we offer a response that is close to all of them: from members, workers, clients or collaborators.
For this reason, we put people at the center not only to listen to their needs, but we also strive for them to be the true protagonists of their life projects. We promote their empowerment by encouraging them to lead their day-to-day decision-making so that they are the ones who transform their realities and build a life project that improves their day-to-day lives.
The reality is that people do not live in isolated societies, so we are aware that this support must also include their immediate environment and the territory where they live. For this reason, we promote a support model based on health and social integration, which not only takes into account the person's health, but also encompasses a holistic view that incorporates other areas of their life such as: social, relational, the immediate environment, economic, cultural, their beliefs, gender identity or sexual orientation, among others.
Therefore, the value of proximity is not only how we relate to the people we care for or work with, but also to their environment and society as a whole. For this reason, our services are rooted in the territory from where we weave support networks or relate to the immediate environment.
You too can contribute to transforming realities from the territory, whether it is a person from the neighborhood, family or friends. Accompany them from proximity in the transformation of their life project. Will you help us build a better world?
