Suara Cooperativa has joined the manifesto 'Childhood and screens', an initiative that promotes healthy development in early childhood (from 0 to 6 years) driven by an interdisciplinary group of professionals interested in health, well-being and child development.
The aim of the manifesto to which Suara has subscribed is to raise awareness of the need to preserve early childhood from continued overexposure to digital devices and screens, as it is a crucial stage for brain, physical and emotional development.
The initiative is aimed at institutions and entities linked to the early childhood stage from the aspects of health, well-being, education, leisure, culture, communication and political action, among others.
Scientific evidence has described harmful effects in relation to continued overexposure to screens for children under the age of six, particularly in brain development, physical health and development, and emotional health.
The team promoting the manifesto proposes to act in a structured, preventive manner and with the involvement of various agents in relation to the following points:
- Boost research in our country and nearby context, to generate more evidence on the harmful effects of overexposure and the long-term impacts of screen use.
- Promote greater social awareness to stop normalizing the use of screens before the age of 3.
- Improve the regulation in the classification of audiovisual content, adapting it to the first stages of children's development.
- Raise awareness in society about the needs of the first years of life and how to satisfy them so that children can grow up in a healthy, balanced way and develop their potential to the maximum.
- Guide and accompany families for a digital coexistence that is respectful of children's health, needs and rhythm.
- Promote family reconciliation policies and access to educational and universal care resources that allow responsible parenting.
- Promote the regulation of digital technology companies to limit the possibilities of collecting sensitive personal information from children for commercial purposes.
