This 2025, the UN has determined that it will be the International Year of Cooperatives in recognition of our key role in building a better world. In the case of Suara, we do it from a group of people who came together to achieve social transformation with the desire to create a more just, equitable and sustainable society.

Under the motto, “Cooperatives build a better world”, the United Nations has declared 2025 the International Year of Cooperatives. Therefore, from Suara, this 2025 we not only wish you a happy new year, but also a happy year of cooperatives and we want to let you know how we contribute to breaking existing social and economic gaps.

“This 2025, cooperatives have a great opportunity to demonstrate that we play an essential role in promoting social transformation and providing responses to challenges such as growing inequalities or the climate emergency”, explains Tomàs Llompart, co-director general of Suara Cooperativa in a New Year’s greeting video.

But how do we make it possible? The action of cooperatives is aimed at building more equitable, resilient, sustainable and just societies. We do this from actions that put both the person and the environment at the center.

In the case of Suara Cooperativa, with more than 40 years of experience in caring for people, we came together with a common goal: achieving social transformation. Therefore, our action is aimed at improving the lives of people, especially those who live in a situation of greater vulnerability. However, this, without a doubt, must also be accompanied by a transformation of the environment through a sustainable activity with nature and, therefore, that mitigates the climate emergency.

To make this possible, our action revolves around four key values for us. The first of them is proximity, since we put the people we care for and the workers at the center of our activity so that they are the protagonists of their vital processes. In addition, our services are rooted in the territory, from where we weave support networks to encourage community action.

In a society where we have been taught to compete, instead of sharing, to live in individuality, instead of collectivity, from Suara Cooperativa we generate spaces of participation where working and served people can express their needs, wills, ideas and opinions. In these spaces, we empower people through decision-making in their daily, work life or, in the case of members, in the future of the cooperative. A good example of this is our horizontal and democratic governance, where members decide the present and future of the organization in assemblies where we all participate with equal voice and vote.

We promote socially responsible activity to improve the lives of people, the environment and the environment. For this reason, we promote a circular economy in the cooperative to reuse resources. In addition, we promote action guided by achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure that the lives of people and the environment improve.

Innovation at the service of people

Finally, in a world where innovation and technology drive us towards constant change and evolution, at Suara we believed it was appropriate that we could not leave anyone behind. Therefore, the last key value of the cooperative is innovation, which permeates all of our action. For this reason, we decided to create the Social Digital Lab, a social innovation laboratory where we co-create with startups and technological companies, citizens, universities and research institutes, as well as public administration innovative solutions to the main current challenges. Therefore, we put innovation at the service of people to break through social, digital and economic gaps.

However, we have not done this journey alone. For this reason, we work in a network and intercooperate with other entities to continue moving forward firmly towards more just, equitable and sustainable societies.

“To each of the more than 1,700 members, more than 5,000 workers, the nearly 50,000 people served, and to all the entities with which we collaborate: Thank you for walking with us”, highlights Laura Peracaula, co-general director of Suara Cooperativa in the New Year greeting video.

From Suara Cooperativa, we wish you: Happy New Year!, Happy International Year of Cooperatives! Suara, people who decide.
