This April 28, World Occupational Safety and Health Day, from Suara Cooperativa we offer you these little tips that can improve occupational health and the emotional well-being of working people.
Disconnect during breaks and at lunchtime
Do you find it hard to disconnect at lunchtime? It is important to live in the present moment and stop work at times such as meals. Small gestures such as not working in front of the computer or not looking at the mobile phone when eating, especially if it is for work, can help us improve our health on a daily basis and reduce stress.
Care spaces between colleagues
In a world where telecommuting is gaining ground, face-to-face is an opportunity to interact with coworkers and care about them while they show interest in you. That's why, on the days you work in the office, things as simple as asking them how they are doing or having them ask you can help improve everyone's emotional well-being. However, in virtuality, it is also important to find these moments and, for example, when we enter an online meeting, we can show interest in the colleagues present. Much of the day is dedicated to our work and we interact with working people, so to create a good working climate that improves the emotional well-being of all, it is important to create these spaces of shared self-care that can be achieved in a way as simple as showing interest in other team members.
Let's be careful what we say and how we say it
We use healthy, inclusive and non-violent communication language, as well as active listening are essential when interacting with our female colleagues. This contributes to generating a good working climate, which avoids possible misunderstandings, which can lead to stress for working people. In addition, they also help women workers feel recognized, valued and listened to.
Avoid forced postures
Adopting adequate postural hygiene as well as maintaining good habits can contribute to reducing the risk of injury as well as preventing discomfort. For this reason, as far as possible, it is recommended to intersperse tasks, which also involve different postures of the body. If you have a job that requires you to spend long hours in front of a computer, you can take short breaks every two or three hours to get up and walk a little to stretch your legs or, from your chair, do arm stretches It is also advisable to stretch before or after the working day.
Let's go with time
Most of the accidents we experience on a daily basis happen while we are moving. For this reason, avoid going to work in a hurry in order not to rush and, in this way, reduce the risk of having an accident while moving to the office or any other place related to the work or personal sphere.
Importance that companies look after the occupational health of workers
It is also essential that companies have measures to ensure the occupational health of working people, such as, for example, the Benestarum project. An online workplace well-being platform funded by companies, where working people have at their disposal virtual sessions in individual and group format with professionals to improve their psychological, emotional, physical, nutritional or financial well-being, among others.
The Benestarum project, by Suara Cooperativa, was born in the context of the pandemic to offer psychological and physiotherapeutic support to working people. Since then, the organization has considerably developed this platform and expanded the number of services. In addition, it also offers it to other companies. Currently, Benestarum has more than 7,500 registered people, who have developed more than 2,600 sessions.
In the same vein, Suara Cooperativa has the Deixa't cuidar space, where we offer face-to-face physiotherapy sessions for both female workers and partners who want to improve their physical health.
On this World Occupational Health and Safety Day, we also want to remember that it is key for companies to get involved in looking after the health of their workers in a holistic and comprehensive way, which goes beyond the plan labor and also encompasses the psychological, emotional and physical sphere.
