We are active members of the Care Network for Homeless People (XAPSLL), in Catalonia, and FEANTSA, the European Federation of National Organizations that works with homeless people.

Welcoming and accompanying

Homelessness represents the most extreme expression of social exclusion. In Catalonia there are some 25,000 homeless people, although access to housing is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. At Suara we work to reduce inequalities and the social inclusion of vulnerable groups, through a model based on respect for people's rights, rhythms and decisions.

We manage several homelessness centres in Catalonia, an area that has been evolving in the cooperative as it has in the municipal, regional and European environment, to go beyond a purely welfare intervention. Each of the centres operate at different levels of the ladder and offer support, services and socio-educational care to the people they serve.

We guide our clients to be able to guarantee the basic needs for survival, being the starting point of the recovery processes that unfortunately affect many of the people that the cooperative assists in different areas: children, families, the elderly, etc. The ultimate goal is for homeless people to recover their autonomy and dignity, to provide them with resources and possibilities so that they can start a new stage in their lives.

Innovative models focused on access to housing

We are committed to innovative models focused on access to housing, such as Housing First, a method based on offering a stable home to people in a situation of chronic exclusion. Recently implemented, this model has proven to be an efficient and effective solution in the fight against homelessness, with many positive effects on the lives of the people it serves.

In a complementary way, at Suara Cooperativa we want to contribute to the dissemination and reflection on the current state of homelessness, through studies on the difficulty of accessing decent housing and how the issue is being tackled all around Europe.
