Why DOMOBOI?
Population ageing and the rise in single-person households pose new challenges for independent living and home-based care. Projections indicate that by 2050, a significant share of Europe’s population will be over 80, and that many older people will be living alone.
DOMOBOI was created to help identify potential risk situations earlier and strengthen support at home, without compromising privacy.
What is DOMOBOI?
DOMOBOI is a home support pilot led by Suara Cooperativa in Ribera d’Ebre. It combines technology and person-centred care to help detect meaningful changes in daily routines and identify risk situations earlier, improving support at home.
The project is being developed under the coordination of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and with the support of the Department of Social Rights.
A respectful care model: no cameras
DOMOBOI is designed to be non-intrusive and to protect people’s privacy.
- It does not use cameras.
- It does not include invasive surveillance.
- It uses sensors and the analysis of environmental activity patterns (such as trends and electricity consumption data) to identify relevant changes in routine.
This in-the-background approach to care adds safety and support without creating a feeling of constant monitoring.
How does it work?
DOMOBOI interprets what is happening in the home environment using activity patterns and electricity consumption data. When changes are identified that may require attention, the system can help trigger notifications within an agreed support pathway, so that the professional team can assess the situation and act when needed.
In summary:
- Discreet capture of patterns (no cameras).
- Identification of meaningful changes in routine.
- Notifications when signs requiring review are detected.
Assessment and response by the service, using professional judgement.

Who is it for?
DOMOBOI is designed to support:
- Older people who want to continue living at home with as much independence as possible.
- People who need day-to-day support.
- Families and support networks seeking greater peace of mind and useful information for ongoing support.
- Social and health care staff and professional teams who want to strengthen prevention and follow-up.
Platform and follow-up
The solution includes a viewing environment (web/mobile) so that caregivers and professional teams can:
- View events
- Receive alerts
Add or edit follow-up notes

Pilot in Ribera d’Ebre
The pilot aims to show how discreet technology can complement everyday care with a proactive approach: detect earlier, act better, and reduce risk situations or declines that often go unnoticed until they become urgent.
DOMOBOI is part of a model that puts people at the centre and sees technology as an ally to strengthen independence, safety, and living at home.
